We just got our first family photos taken at Target. I wish my computer worked so I could scan them for you to see. I'm going to ask for a healthy computer for Christmas. (David thinks it needs a new hard drive)Lucas is just adorable in the pics!! It was so hard to choose which ones to discard. We took forever and probably ordered too many!

I have discovered that you must begin Christmas shopping in October or November when you have a baby. I need to be a much better planner now. I didn't even give out Christmas cards at school this year and I only gave out three gifts. Usually I find little gifts that are cheap but thoughtful but not this year!

Today after church, Lucas and I went to one store and the carwash before he'd had it. So....I"m home waiting for him to be done napping so I can feed him and we can head out again. It works better that way but it takes more gas and more time and effort.

Wow! It seems like I blog on here not even every month. I really need to get better at that! When I have a minute I have been trying to keep current on a blog for Lucas. Here’s my first entry for him.

Hi my sweet boy,

This is my blog for you. Maybe someday you’ll read it and know that mommy loves you so much and was thinking of you.

I was in labor with you for 24 hours. That’s a long time, but you were worth every second! The drs were worried about you since you were taking so long. They wanted us to make a decision on what procedure to do next to help you. Your daddy told them we were Christians and believed in the power of prayer, so before we made any decisions we would pray. It was a scary time and we needed God’s peace. Daddy invited all the hospital staff to stay and one nurse did. Julia. She was my favorite. Then he had everyone come around my bed and hold hands and seek God. We had peace about doing the suction procedure and it worked right away! You were born Monday evening at 8:31 pm. You weighed 7 lbs 7.7 oz. They whisked you away to work on you when all I wanted to do was hold you. Grandma told me they put a tube down your throat to suck the nasty fluid out, and they rubbed you really hard to turn your skin from blue to pink. Finally they put you in my arms and then all was right with my world. You were a beautiful baby with eyes wide open taking in this new place you’d arrived in. Grandma, Auntie Abby, Abuela,  Papi and Auntie Jen all watched you arrive in this world. Abuelo stayed in the waiting room and prayed.

Should I also tell him that once this week, I dreamed of leaving him with his daddy and telling no one not even my husband, where I was going? My plan was to check into the Holiday Inn and sleep the entire day away! I have to admit I took a sick day this Friday and then I still brought Lucas to daycare. I had had about three hours of sleep for a few days and it was really taking a toll. I still don’t feel like myself but my throat and ear pain is manageable now so I know I don’t have strep.

I told my husband I was going to sleep until it was time to pick Lucas up from daycare. I told him not to wake me up unless the house was ON FIRE. (He has his own business so sometimes his hours are at night or on Saturdays and he’s home during the day.) What do you know, he woke me up four different times! I wanted to SMACK HIM!!! The first time he kissed me on my head and said, “Babe, I cleaned up downstairs. You are going to love what you see.” The second time- more of the same. The third time-I blocked out. The fourth time-“Babe, Where do you keep the envelopes? I need to mail something.” At this point, I hissed,” I am SLEEPING or at least I WAS! I asked you NOT to wake me up for any reason. Please LEAVE ME ALONE!” He said, “You mean, you’re not going to tell me where the envelopes are?” I said, “NOOO!!” He said, “I don’t know why you’re making such a big deal of this. You’re not being very nice.” He left and I heard him opening desk drawers and guess what? He found an envelope by himself! I tried to say in bed a little longer but it was pointless. Don’t worry, I got some rest in between.

Lucas cut two bottom teeth! Is the worst over yet? I certainly hope so. I need some sleep.

He's also had a constant cold since starting daycare September 1st. That's a whole month's worth of a cold! It goes in stages, a runny nose, stuffy nose, little cough, but I just want him better! What can I do for him to get rid of a stuffy nose?

A friend asked me to go apple picking today. I want to so bad and just thinking about it makes me want to eat some apple cake and make some apple sauce. I just hope it warms up! It's freezing in our house so I can only imagine how cold it is outside and I am all stuffy so I don't want to get chilled.

I love Kindergarten! I miss my Ashlee so much though. She is teaching second, so no more planning together. Our classes are doing reading buddies and we have lunch together so I get to see her some.

I'm getting ready for Open House. It's always a fun, exhausting night but this time I resent it a bit because I don't want to leave my baby home again from 5-7. I want to bring him, but that would only work if David can come to be a buffer if he starts getting fussy. Is that unprofessional? Not sure I care.

Whenever school starts I am always EXHAUSTED. The first week I go to bed by 9 and sometimes nap when I get home too. I think that my body is adjusting to getting up by 5 again,(Wait, I already do this since Lucas has arrived) all the excitement, tears, parent's demands and questions etc. This year I think will be even crazier with a baby in the mix-getting him fed and ready, taking him to daycare, and school starting at an earlier time (7:50) The temptation to order in is always there because I don't have the energy to cook AT ALL! This year with finances being tight I decided to freeze some meals. I got the idea from my shower where I was given nine meals to take home that we enjoyed very much. So last night I made 2 pans of ziti, chili-2 times, cranberry chicken, pork with marmalade sauce, chicken parmesan and taco soup. Tonight I'm making and freezing cookies for lunches. I feel really excited about this and may do it on a regular basis. It wasn't even that hard! I am very tired this morning though because the kitchen didn't get cleaned up until 12. I am surviving with so much less sleep than before Lucas. My ideal vacation would be just to sleep.
Ta ta. Off to another day of kindergarten screening. Soo..... boring, but very necessary. I wish I could test my own kids instead of students in other classes. That would help a little with the boredom because I would be getting to know my own students, but then I wouldn't be able to talk to the parents on my day. Yawn!!

I thought I would show you the cakes I made for cake class.

cake 2   cake 3   clown cake   flower pinwheels

Hopefully, I will get better. The last cake is my first attempt at flowers. I still can't make a rose or sweet pea very well so I haven't put them on a cake yet. It's been fun. I've made a HUGE mess in my kitchen each time I decorate and make icing, but I think it has been worth it so far. It was hard doing it with a little one, but he's the reason I wanted to try it so I could make him a cake for his first birthday.

YAWN! I'm off to bed.
